Welcome to the website van P.j.Kooij en Zn B.V.

The name of the company is the concatenation of the family name. The origin of the family farm was started in Boskoop in 1960 as an arboriculture by Mr. P.J. Kooij. In the 1970s greenhouses were built in order to cultivate flourishing pot plants.
In 1976 the first nertera. After many years of experiments, the company developed a way to make the nerteras produce large numbers of berries. Since 1984, the company is called P.J. Kooij & ZN B.V.
When in 1998 the company in Boskoop outgrew its premises, it was decided to move the company to Ens in the so-called Northeast Polder, where until the present day different nerteras are grown on an area of 25.000 m˛ (±6.200acres). With the main crops "Astrid”, “Suzanne”, “Marleen” and “Minestrone”, in an 8cm pot. Nowadays, the sons Hans and Ruud Kooij have taken over the company and are supported by 5 enthusiastic staff, which allows us to produce each year 1.5 million nerteras. Busy times are complemented by temporary workers.
We aim to produce a high-quality product with highly decorative values as well as to work in a social and environmentally friendly way. We achieve our goals by –among other things- minimizing the use of chemical pesticides. As a result, for many years now, we have been meeting up with the MPS-A and MPS-GAP qualifications. For more information check out the website of the MPS (Environmental Programme Floriculture).
